Acting
S.R has been acting since 2017 and hasn't stopped since! Starting with a production at her middle school, she quickly became enamored with acting. Some of her favorite roles she's played include Dorothy Gale (Wizard of Oz), Mrs. Peacock (Clue!), Spot Conlon (Newsies), and Sally Brown (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown). And these aren't just her favorites because of the show itself, but rather the acting challenges these roles brought!

When acting, there are so many things S.R enjoys doing and incorporating into her work. One of those things being accents! She can perform accents such as Southern, RP British, Irish, Valleyspeak, Transatlantic, French, and many others. To add dimension to the characters she plays, S.R will sometimes add hints of or full on accents. While playing Mrs. Peacock in a production of Clue, she decided to give her character a southern accent to help develop a sense of background and a way for the audience to identify and relate to the character. S.R has also performed using a british accent, more specifically, received pronunciation (RP British) when she was playing Ladybug in James and the Giant Peach, as well as in Sweeney Todd.

Another thing S.R enjoys within acting in telling a story with her body, without words. As a dancer, S.R knows that to convey a story or emotion to the audience, she must make it clear with her body language and movement. Before she auditioned for the role of Sally Brown (a child who has constant outbursts onstage), S.R observed what her younger relatives did during tantrums and how they spoke to those around them. During her audition, she mimicked those behaviors to make Sally's portrayal as accurate as possible and she ended up getting cast in the role!

S.R has many other skills relating back to acting. She has experience working with animals onstage, as she acted alongside a dog named Zeus, during Wizard of Oz. She has also studied and perfected the difference between screen and stage acting, knowing the little things that differentiate them. She always studies the character when she is assigned the role and uses how they are feeling in the show to determine how she will posture her body language. She also enjoys creating storylines for her ensemble tracks. That way she has a character story to follow and her reactions and emotions in each scene are cohesive and makes sense.
Finally, S.R has a perspective from behind the casting table. As she has worked in leadership roles such as choreographer, dance captain, and assistant director, she knows what to she needs to give directors and teachers during the audition, rehearsal, and performance process.
