Dance
S.R is trained in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, hip hop, musical theatre, contortion, and can quickly learn other styles if taught.
She has taken 4 years of dance during high school where she was enrolled in the school's dance program with a focus on ballet, jazz, modern, and tap. The dance pathway program included five required classes and an in-class internship which S.R completed under Teacher Kristen Tyler (pictured below). Students in the program were first taught the basics of dance and then given harder material as they progressed and learned more. One main focus of these classes was choreography and recital. Each semester, they had to create dance pieces (pick the music, dance style, costumes, lighting, staging, people, etc.) for their recital. They were also taught the history of dance as well as anatomy.
S.R has been dance captain and choreographer for multiple productions as well as interned and taught subjects relating to dance. Currently she studies weekly with dance teacher, Chloe Boggs and her studio. At the studio, S.R takes the Intermediate/Advanced Tap and Musial Theatre Dance class. This class’s main focus is on tap and musical theatre dance but also provides important instruction on ballet and dance technique. The class creates and works on two dances -one tap dance, one musical theatre style dance- to perform at a recital. Each student must set a goal at the beginning of the semester with the intention that by the end of semester recital, they have progressed in some way.
Other aspects that S.R enjoys within dance includes the emotional release and outlet it provides. After an injury that benched her from gymnastics when she was young, dance became a lifeline for S.R. She was able to use what she knew from gymnastics and contortion and incorporate it into her dancing. Plus, she was able to use her acting skills to influence her movement throughout dance. In addition to dance, gymnastics, and contortion, S.R was on the JV Football Cheer Team in 2019. Through her school's dance program, she has also worked with professional dancers such as Peter Pucci, Melinda Blomquist, and Adrienne Kraus Latanishen. This led into college when she worked again with Peter and Adrienne on a different project.
